Inner tie rod end - Integra

Post by Dstrcto on Fri Jul 30, 2010 10:51 am

Almost 6 AM and I just finished pulling the trans to swap it, figured I'd do the inner tie rod end while I was under there... but WTF HONDA. Seriously? Gotta drop the subframe to get to the boot clamp? This is bull shit. Evil or Very Mad

Ok, I got it all apart. Sorta. I can't get the damn tie rod end off. I have a wrench that fits the NEW tie rod, but I don't have one that fits the old one. UGGGGHHH... I can't even go anywhere to get the right wrench!!!

I thought you needed a special honda tool to get the inners off?

Nah, you just gotta grab it with something that fits and twist. If you turn it completely opposite lock it sticks out just far enough. It was still a bitch. Since I didn't care about the old one, I just used some pliers Mike had left over here and dug into it. I guess the OEM one is like a 32mm... The new one is a TRW and a 30mm wrench fits it... which I have. The only weird/sucky thing is there's a lock washer sorta thing, that you are supposed to tap down to hold the "nut" end of the tie rod and keep it from spinning back off, I could only get like 2 good sides tapped down, the rest I just tried to crush with the pliers. I am sure there's gotta be a way to do this other than having to succumb to pulling the subframe... Ah well, it's done.
